Reinventing The Network Marketing Wheel - Don't

By John ODriscoll

One of the things I am constantly amazed of in my Network Marketing career are the amount of new people who enter the business who want to reinvent the wheel!

The entire essence of Network Marketing is the company provide a system that is duplicable. This means all you need to do is follow the system and with the help, advice and support from your sponsor you will achieve success. So why then do people insist on turning things on their head?

The conclusion I have come to is people get so excited about joining a new business that they go out and purchase the first lead generation programme out there. They spend their hard earned money on the first fancy email that hits their in box. They email or call me and tell me how they have followed the system and bought x number of leads from company ABC.

Every time this happens I hold my head in my hands and make a silent prayer that they have not chosen a dud. Nine times out of ten though they come to me and say "John, what happened? I followed the system and it didn't work" I am always very patient when I ask how they came to choose company ABC by following the system as I know its not in there.

A hard lesson maybe, but not a bad one to have right up front before you really get started in your Network Marketing business. From that point on they tend to start to listen to someone who has done it before and more importantly has run a series of tests to check which lead generation system works best with our particular company.

You see excitement and enthusiasm are great things but you need to ensure you are directing all of that energy to the right target. You're going to struggle to achieve your goals in Network Marketing if you apply the Shotgun method of lead generation i.e. buy the next new thing on the block. You need to be like a sniper, choose your target carefully (have someone choose it with you!), set your sights, and squeeze the trigger and FIRE!

If your new to Network Marketing or about to embark on a career with a new company remember…follow the system and don't reinvent the wheel (until you have money to burn on testing!)

Network Marketing - When You Shouldn't Be The Expert

By Janet Napora

I see a lot of different advice on how to talk to prospects or as I look at it-potential team members. Some people tell them what a great company and compensation plan they have, or about the wonderful the results people are having with their products. There's no doubt a great company, comp plan and great products are necessary things to have. While your prospects are listening to to you, all they're thinking is "can I do this and will you help me?"

If your an expert on your company or how MLM works, that's great but can your new people do what your doing? Is there duplication? What you need is a system or systems that everyone can do. We all have different comfort levels, strengths and weaknesses. Some people may be great at doing presentations, I for one hate doing presentations. They make me very uncomfortable, so I don't do them. The point is that's ok because there are other options available.

Setting yourself up as an expert is sometimes like shooting yourself in the foot. It's not always possible to duplicate. Over the course of your career you will eventually become an expert and be able to help others by being the go between and by that I'm talking about the 3-way call.

When your working to create additional from home your goal should be a combination of retailing product and sponsoring new affiliates. Let's start with retailing. You don't need to be the expert about your products. You simply need to tell a story about the benefits of your product, whether it's your story or someone elses. If someone wants to know more about the product there should be someone there for you, to be the expert.

Exposing someone to your business can be as simple as handing them a cd or putting them on a conference call. This step is to give them a general over view of your business. The 3-way call is the means to answer all of your prospects questions...not to close the deal. You are the one building the relationship. What happens next? Your prospect will realize "Hey I can do This. Hand out a cd, have my upline, my team help me when I need it and NOT have to be the expert!"

Many people are looking to create additional income from home, as many as 170,000 people are joining home-based business every WEEK. Unfortunately most of them are failing because they don't have a system or the support and training they need. Sales is a part of Network Marketing and MLM but the relationships that you build are what enables you to create long term, walk away residual income.

How to Build an Attrition Resistant Network Marketing Business

By Michael L. Smith

With attrition rates (people leaving your organization) at a staggering 70% within three months of startup, the network marketing industry is come by day, leave by night. Why is that? Lack of good leaders? Maybe.

However, this article isn't geared towards that topic. This article is about how to make your business resistant to the constant attrition in network marketing. Well, one of my mentors Mike Dillard coined the term "You Inc" in his book MLM Traffic Formula.

Anyways, in today's world of convenience and fast paced action this couldn't be more important. No matter how good of a leader you are people will leave your organization. Things happen, people change and they may leave.

That is why it is crucial to create "You Inc." Let me explain. Creating "You Inc" is basically all about branding yourself in this industry and selling yourself not your company. In the end people don't buy into the company, the pay plan, or your stupendous life changing product. They buy YOU, that is it.

Creating "You Inc" really means creating a relationship with people and having a list. So no matter what happens tomorrow you will always have your list. Grow this list of people and build trust. Help your list achieve their goals and they will be with you forever.

When you create your list, attrition is a thing of the past. It doesn't matter if your company went out of business tomorrow because you still have the relationships.

You must solve other peoples problems and give without ever thinking about getting.

So what is "You Inc" you ask? It is a list of people who know and trust you because of the value you have given them over time. What do I mean by value? Value is teaching people without asking for money in return, being a mentor with a servant's heart. Once you have a list of people that trust you it doesn't matter what happens tomorrow. The equity you have is in yourself.

So build your list and help people without expecting anything in return. Once you start to truly open your heart to others is the day success will come your way.

The New Age Of Network Marketing

By Jonathan Budd

C’mon….you knew things weren’t going to stay the same forever. Right?

Maybe not, it certainly seems 97% of the people out there have no idea an entire generation of network marketers is using the latest technologies to build global businesses.

In one respect, I should keep it that way! The less competition the better, but in another respect, wow, it sure is nice to not have to leave your computer to build a global network marketing business from the comforts of your home. That’s something worth sharing.

So here is the deal, the internet has created the perfect storm to wreak havoc on the network marketing industry.

You now have at your fingertips billions of people, and once you master the ability to tap directly into the markets of people who are looking for what you have to offer….you possess the ability to grow organizations at light speed compared to hunting down people in your warm market.

Personally, after having beat my head against the pavement for 8 months hoping I could convince someone to be interested in my business….to only talking to people when they stick their hand up and say “I’m Interested’, I wouldn’t do network marketing any other way.

As everything though, there is a fine art to utilizing this amazing tool, the internet, to maximize the success you will have with it. And it’s the people who are willing to put in the work, dig up the nuggets of golden information, and apply what they learn that will reap the rewards of the New Age in Network Marketing.

Network Marketing -- The Concept is Sound

By Geoff Barraclough

MLM or Network Marketing, despite its inherent weaknesses and ‘bad Apples’ IS a good means to get started in an online business.

The concept of Multi-Layered-Marketing is a sound one –- the idea that my monthly fee benefits someone else and someone else’s monthly fee benefits me and so on. And, (theoretically) some work and effort now will continue to benefit me in the future…

The products involved in MLM are usually TOTALLY secondary to the prime goal of making money. Yes the juice might taste great and be beneficial, but let’s be honest, it wouldn’t sell half as well without the matrixes and ‘downlines’ etc adding to the potential commissions for selling it.

In the introduction I mentioned the ‘inherent’ weaknesses of MLM –- actually there is only one!...Human nature!

It’s human to want more than we need (in any facet of life) and unfortunately that brings about one of the ‘deadly sins’ –- Greed!

To most people their greed is something that is controlled. Yes, some of us do succumb to temptation occasionally and we put on our plates more than we can actually eat, and maybe some of us are prone at times to a little exaggeration to make something sound more appealing than it probably is to gain a higher value for it. But in the main most people do not resort to cheating, lying and stealing to satisfy their greed. (Many people do though unfortunately –- but I believe these people will get their comeuppance eventually!).

It is human nature for us to be attracted by an ad. or sales letter that claims we can make $10,000.00 per month by doing very little work –- more-- than one that suggests we may be able to earn $500.00 if we put in some effort. Even though really we KNOW you cannot get $10,000.00 a month for very little work (otherwise EVERY sane person on the planet would be doing it!)

Of course as an individual I cannot do anything about all the sales ads and letters giving false hope and therefore giving MLM a bad name –- but through this article I will tell you that being in an MLM business requires work and lots of it –- and if you do work hard enough to achieve a 10 grand per month income –- it will take more than a few weeks.

I really do wish that the TRUTH could be told (that is the ‘truth’ based on what is commonly achieved by ordinary (not lazy) people rather than the rare go-getter committed and talented individuals) in ALL Internet advertising.

If you are lead to believe that your income could be $10,000.00 per month by referring only 3 people in an MLM business (I have seen this!) and you get your 3 people –- but they do nothing and your income does not even cover the monthly fees you have to pay –- how long are you going to stay, not only, with that company but in an MLM at all? And then you will no doubt join all the other doubters, critics and ‘bad-mouthers’ of MLM

Therefore the very ad sales letter that was designed to attract you into the business has actually had the effect of turning you against it…crazy!

As I have said MLM IS a good business concept –- but treat it as a means to an end. Use an MLM business to primarily gain marketing experience knowledge (and hopefully some start-up capital for your future business) DO NOT join on the basis of the hype that you will earn an easy fortune! – Sometimes you even get a good product for your money as well…

What's With The "Rah-Rah" Meetings?

By Joshua Fuson

Good afternoon! Today, I’m going to make a lot of people angry.

I need you to understand that it is not my intent or focus to upset anyone. My intent and focus, my mission, is to educate and help people understand how the network marketing industry works. And to do that, I realize that some people might take offense or be upset by what I say. If you are one of those people, I apologize in advance. I am not anti-MLM or anti-network marketing. In fact, I think that network marketing and MLM is probably the best place on the planet for the “little guy” to get started with a few hundred bucks, and turn that into a huge residual income.

Unfortunately, network marketing and MLM both have sketchy reputations. Personally, I am anti-B.S., and I want to take a few moments to look at one of the most misunderstood pieces of this puzzle.

Today I want to look at the “company event” or “company conference”. You have heard of them (or been to them): it’s a huge MEGA-EVENT in which some key speakers get on stage and tell their “million dollar story”, the CEO or president might get on stage and talk about what an amazing company they have, what an amazing product line, ad nauseam. Typically, companies will also launch a new product or product line at the event. The distributors will usually pay several hundred or several thousand dollars to attend the event, plus travel, accommodations, etc..

What’s up with these things? What purpose do they serve?

First consider this: most of us are creatures of habit. If you doubt this, go look in your refrigerator. The types of food you see in there today will probably be the same types of food that will be in there 3 weeks from now. We buy out of habit.

As a business, I have to know that the absolute best, most responsive customer I could ever have is a customer that has habitually bought from me before. The group of these buyers, as a whole, can be called my “client base”. My client base has already demonstrated that they will buy my products. They have also demonstrated that they are willing to keep buying my products.

An MLM or network marketing company is no different. They have a client base. They call these clients “distributors”. These distributors have demonstrated the propensity to purchase a particular type of product. Usually, they are buying it monthly on “autoship”. So if I’m a company, and I’m looking to generate more revenue, how can I do that?

Well, one option is to have a mega-event. An MLM or network marketing company can advertise this “rah-rah” meeting as an annual (or semi-annual) mega-event, training conference, whatever. The company can fill an auditorium with current clients (distributors), and then bring in key speakers that talk about how much money they can make with this company, how great the product is, how fantastic the opportunity is, etc. They charge each distributor a premium price (usually several hundreds thousands of dollars) and at the same time, qualify the distributor as being both a “buyer” and as having enough money to buy additional products.

Once everyone gets in the auditorium, and everyone gets real excited, the company can then launch a new product or product line, and literally guarantee that the launch will be successful. Because the company qualified everyone as both a “buyer” and as having enough money to buy, the new product launch is an absolute success. The company generates revenue. The distributor spends money.

This is the same principle that every other retail business uses. Think about it: have you ever bought anything online, and then continued to receive emails or “junk mail” from that company with additional offers and specials? That company understands that you have bought from them before. And you will probably buy from them again. So they continue to send special offers.

Again, I’m not saying that networking companies are bad, or that MLM companies are trying to exploit their distributors. I am saying that network marketing and multi-level marketing is about business. To make a ton of money in this industry is downright easy if you understand how the numbers work. But the flip-side of that coin is if a distributor doesn’t understand the numbers, they will probably be making a lot of financial donations to their company.

Of course, these “rah-rah” meetings are not completely useless to distributors. Most distributors will certainly come away from that event being very motivated. And motivation is a very important thing. But motivation without the right tools usually spells disaster.

Think of it like this: If I’m REALLY motivated to change the oil in my car, but the only tools I have are a fork and a steak knife, I’m going to have a very difficult time getting the job done. Motivation has very little to do with my inability to change the oil, I could want to get that oil changed more than anything I've ever wanted; it really comes down to having the right tools, and the knowledge to use those tools effectively. That’s the bottom line.

If you are a distributor, then you need to know what you are doing. If you spend two grand on an event, I at least hope you get more out that thing than some extra product. Invest in your knowledge, invest in your skill set, and watch you business grow.
